ASHLAND – With two regular-season series left to play, Southern Oregon came in at No. 6 in Wednesday's NAIA Top 25 softball coaches' poll.
The Raiders stand at 29-13 overall and 10-8 in the Cascade Conference. They dropped one spot following a tough series at Oregon Tech, which stayed at No. 1 and collected 11 of 19 first-place votes with its 38-4 record.
The Raiders have their final homestand this weekend against Simpson (Calif.) (15-24, 9-9), with first pitches of their doubleheaders scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Park. They enter the weekend tied for third place in the CCC with British Columbia.
Second-place Eastern Oregon (32-6, 14-4) fell one spot to No. 5 in the poll. The Mountaineers host OIT next week in La Grande, where the Owls will need one win to clinch the regular-season championship.
The final poll will be released April 29. After that, the national selection committee will reveal the 10 hosts of the NAIA Championship Opening Round based on rankings, among other factors. SOU has hosted an Opening Round bracket six of the last seven postseasons.
