ASHLAND – Mason Weisgerber's superlative junior season for the Southern Oregon University cross country and track and field teams has been garnished with Academic All-America second-team recognition, the College Sports Communicators announced.

The CSC award is designed to recognize the best in the country for a combination of their academic and athletic performances. Weisgerber became the third men's runner in SOU history to earn it, joining two-time honorees Eric Ghelfi (2014, '15) and Trevor Palmer (2006, '07).

The Wilsonville High graduated pieced together a trio of top-five national finishes in 2025-26, starting with his runner-up effort at the NAIA Cross Country Championships. He went on to place third in the 5,000-meter race at the NAIA Indoor Championships and fifth in the 10K at the NAIA Outdoor Championships.

Weisgerber, who joined the Raiders as a true freshman in 2023, is a business administration major with a 3.71 cumulative GPA. He previously attained Academic All-Cascade Conference and NAIA Scholar Athlete status, and was one of just 20 cross country/track and field athletes in the country to be voted an Academic All-American.

Before stealing second at the NAIA cross country meet, Weisgerber notched his second All-CCC award in cross by placing fifth.

On the track, he became the first Raider ever to break 30 minutes in the 10K, clocking in at 29:49.30 in a record-breaking mid-April run at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational. On the national performance lists, he landed at No. 5 in the 10K, No. 7 in the 5K (14:08.78) and No. 34 in the 1,500 (3:52.86) – establishing new personal bests in each event.

He'll enter his senior season as a four-time overall All-American, having also placed eighth in the NAIA Outdoor 5K as a sophomore.

SOU produced three Academic All-Americans in 2025-26, matching the second-highest single-year total in school history. Women's soccer player Miller Bertani and men's basketball player Bryce Dyer were the other honorees.
