ASHLAND – Southern Oregon soccer players Jonathan Gaspar, Michael Mutchukian and Payton Puppe-Wotipka were voted Cascade Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday along with cross country runner Mason Weisgerber.

Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week: The Raiders got late heroics from Gaspar on back-to-back days to secure six points on the opening week of CCC play, winning 2-1 at both Northwest (Wash.) and Evergreen (Wash.). In the Northwest game, Gaspar put in the go-ahead goal with 13 seconds left – the latest regulation game-winner in SOU history. A day later, after SOU equalized in the 82nd minute, Gaspar struck again in the 85th. The All-CCC junior midfielder from Forest Grove has three goals on the season.

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week: Mutchukian was a major factor on both ends of the field during the perfect trip that put SOU's overall record at 5-0-1. The 6-foot-5 defender from Las Vegas was part of a back line that kept its opponents at four shots on goal per game, and he headed in the equalizer on Friday at Northwest. At Evergreen, he assisted Ariel De Dios Cruz's goal that leveled the contest in the 82nd minute. Gaspar went on to put the Raiders ahead three minutes later; it was the first time they'd ever put in an equalizer and a go-ahead goal in the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week: The Raiders (5-0-2 overall) continued the best start in program history with matching 2-0 victories at Northwest (Wash.) and Evergreen (Wash.). Puppe-Wotipka, a third-year starter from Mukilteo, Wash., scored her first goal of the season in the first game – lining in a free kick from 40 yards out – and anchored a defense that kept Evergreen without a single shot in the second. It was the first time in six seasons that an SOU opponent failed to generate a single attempt.

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Weisgerber, last year's second-place finisher at the NAIA Championship, earned his first race victory of the season at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational on Saturday. The senior from Wilsonville ran the 8,000-meter course in 24:19.3, clearing the runner-up in a field of 100 by a full 19 seconds. He and the No. 3-ranked Raiders also picked up a team win with two more runners, Andrew Rush and Carter Stedman, among the top-four placers.
