 – Daniel Espinosa and Tim Grahmann combined for 13 saves to keep Southern Oregon close in a 4-1 exhibition loss to NCAA Division I foe University of Portland on Tuesday night at Merlo Field.

The game was a counter for the Pilots (1-3-1), whom Espinosa kept off the board until the 38th minute. Dominic Edwards tallied first and Joe Highfield converted from the penalty spot a few minutes later to give Portland a 2-0 halftime lead. Highfield would strike again in the 59th.

SOU freshman Cruz Cuevas-George scored with nine seconds left in the contest. Cuevas-George, who logged the first goal and assist of his career last week, took an assist from Grahmann.

Grahmann saved five shots without allowing a goal. Espinosa, who covered the first 71 minutes in goal for the Raiders, saved eight.

The Raiders will bring a 3-0-1 record into their Cascade Conference opener, Sept. 18 at Northwest (Wash.).
