ASHLAND – Junior thrower Andrew Mitchell took down a Southern Oregon school record in the javelin with a monstrous PR in the final event of the Raider Invitational on Saturday at Raider Stadium.

On his fourth attempt, Mitchell put up the winning mark of 217 feet 2 inches – the top throw in the Cascade Conference and the No. 3 mark on the NAIA performance list, breaking Jeff Bentley's new-rules SOU javelin record (213-7) that had stood for 20 years. The throw by Mitchell, an NAIA All-American last season, was 16 feet farther than his previous best.

Wayne Garcia and Luke King both added throws wins for the Raider men, Garcia with a PR in the hammer (176-5) and King with an NAIA 'B' standard mark in the shot put (51-3). Matthew O'Henley was second in the hammer (165-1) and Tre Holmes third in the shot put (50-1 ¼).

Elsewhere for the Raider men, Cade O'Connor recorded a PR and Cascade Conference-qualifying time of 22.73 second in the 200 meters and placed third of 20 in the 400 at 50.44 second. Three matched the second highest clearance in the pole vault of 14-5 ¼ -- Carson Le Bel, Cody Le Bel and Keith Sorenson – and Carson Le Bel matched a season-best in the high jump of 6-2 ¾ for third place.

After notching a PR in Friday's triple jump, Sienna Bauer delivered two more to finish off her big meet for the Raider women, taking third in both the 100 hurdles (15.82) and the long jump (16-8 ¾).

India Ortiz was the women's 400-meter hurdles runner-up in 1:07.64, and Malaika Quigley placed fifth of 18 in the javelin with a PR of 121-10.

The Raiders will travel to Corvallis next Saturday for the Oregon State High Performance Meet, their penultimate outing before the CCC Championships.
