COMPLETE MEET RESULTS
CORVALLIS – Two weeks ahead of the Cascade Conference Championships, the Southern Oregon track and field team had a productive stay Friday and Saturday at the Oregon State High Performance Meet, adding three new men's NAIA qualifying marks.
Cody Le Bel became an automatic national qualifier in the pole vault, while
Isaac Fernandez's 5,000-meter time and
Wayne Garcia's hammer throw made them provisional qualifiers in their respective disciplines.
Le Bel, a junior from Central Point, hit the 'A' standard on the nose and became the 10th automatic qualifier in the pole vault this season by clearing 15 feet 9 inches – a height that also made him the winner of the 18-person event. He's now tied for sixth on SOU's all-time performance list.
Carson Le Bel and
Keith Sorenson also banked personal bests in the pole vault, both getting over 14-9.
Fernandez's 5K time of 14 minutes 46.59 seconds marked a nine-second PR and gave him fourth place in the 30-person race. He entered the meet already an automatic national qualifier in the 10K and now stands at No. 28 on the 5K national performance list.
Frankie Maciel placed seventh, his time of 14:53.64 less than four seconds away from putting him in the NAIA 'B' category.
Garcia's hammer throw of 179-7 was the 15th-best in the NAIA this season and made him third place of 32 at the meet.
Matthew O'Henley (154-3) and
Kianush Behbehani-Escobar (148-10) were also among the top-eight. In the shot put,
Luke King (50-2 ½) and
Tre Holmes (49-2 ¼) chimed in with sixth- and seventh-place showings.
On the women's side,
Alejandra Lopez was the runner-up in the 5K open with a PR of 17:52.39. A week removed from taking second place in the Cascade Conference heptathlon,
Abi Stevens matched her season-best 'B' mark in the high jump (5-5) and logged a PR in the 100 hurdles (15.10).
Aayzia Dumas added a PR in the women's 400 (59.38) to place 11th of 36 and climb to No. 5 on the CCC performance list.
Cade O'Connor PR'd in the men's 400 (49.79) to place 11th of 40 and took eighth in the 400 hurdles (56.70).
SOU's final meet of the regular season is next week's Linfield Invitational.
