SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The No. 8-ranked Southern Oregon beach volleyball team marked its 2025 debut with a split, losing 5-0 to No. 3 The Master's (Calif.) before winning 3-2 against Cal State Los Angeles.

The Master's took five tight matches from the Raiders, two of which went to tiebreaker sets.

Two of SOU's three wins against Cal State LA also went to tiebreakers: the No. 1 pair of Madi Gray and Tessa Zimmermann came through in theirs, 15-13, and No. 5 pair Vitoria Mattos and Natalie Perez secured the clinching match 15-11 in the third. Grace Gulbrandsen and Kira Sandoval, SOU's No. 2 pair, prevailed in straight sets after dropping their first match of the day in three.

"For a 5-0 loss to The Master's, we were competitive against a team playing its sixth match of the season," SOU coach Paul Elliott said. "It was nice to get right back on the sand against CSULA."

The Raiders remain in Santa Clarita for a rematch with The Master's at 10 a.m. and a meeting with Vanguard at noon Saturday.
