SOU beats Portland, 3-2

PORTLAND – The Southern Oregon beach volleyball team swept three of University or Portland's pairs and pushed two more to tiebreaker sets to defeat the NCAA Division I squad 3-2 on Friday at the Names Family Foundation Courts.

The Raiders (2-3 overall) got straight-set victories from No. 1 pair Madi Gray and Tessa Zimmermann, No. 4 Kendal Hadwick and Skyy Nihipali-Botelho, and No. 5 Andressa Ribeiro Soares and Natalie Perez.

Their No. 2 pair of Linda Conceicao and Grace Gulbrandsen won their first set before dropping the next two, and No. 3 pair Lucretia Benolken and Kira Sandoval forced a third set before falling 15-4.

"We're focused on continuing to grow as a team and in pairs," SOU coach Paul Elliott said. "Today, we did that."

The Pilots fell to 0-4. The teams meet again at 11 a.m. Saturday.
