PORTLAND – University of Portland took a decisive matchup of No. 3 pairs in a tiebreaker set to get back at Southern Oregon with a 3-2 victory on Saturday at the Names Family Foundation Courts in beach volleyball action.
The No. 8-ranked Raiders (2-4) – who defeated the Pilots 3-2 on Friday – tied the dual at 2-2 when its No. 5 pair,
Andressa Ribeiro Soares and
Natalie Perez, triumphed for the second day in a row.
The final outcome came down to a third set between UP's Elizabeth Ortiz and Taylor Helle and SOU's
Lucretia Benolken and
Kira Sandoval, and the Pilots' No. 3 pair rolled 15-8.
Linda Conceicao and
Grace Gulbrandsen, a No. 2 pair, accounted for SOU's other match win in straight sets.
The Raiders enter the Cascade Conference portion of their schedule next weekend in Salem against Bushnell and Corban.
