COMPLETE MEET RESULTS
ARCATA, Calif. – Sophomore pole-vaulter
Katherine Martinez logged Southern Oregon's first national-qualifying mark of the spring while picking up an event victory on Saturday at the Cal Poly Humboldt Invite.
Martinez hit the NAIA 'B' standard on the nose by clearing 11 feet 11 ¾ inches and topping an eight-person field by a margin of over seven inches. It matched the second-best pole vault mark in SOU women's history and put Martinez in a tie for fifth place on the national performance list.
The product of Crescent City, Calif., who was last year's second-place finisher in the Cascade Conference, had a previous best of 11-8 that she posted three weeks ago at the Chico Invite. Including indoor season, she has won three consecutive competitions.
The Raiders – who competed exclusively in the pole vault at Humboldt – also produced the third-place finisher,
Sydney Perkins, who matched her season best at 11-4 ¼.
Gabi Hansen cleared 8-10 ¾ to take sixth.
SOU will send groups next week to the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and Linfield's Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational.
