SALEM – A split of Thursday's action left the Southern Oregon University beach volleyball team with a lot of work to do on Friday in order to win the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank.

The No. 7-ranked Raiders opened the double-elimination tournament with a 3-0 win over No. 9 College of Idaho that set up a matchup with top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Corban, the other first-round winner. All five matches between the teams went to tiebreaker sets before the Warriors escaped with a 3-1 victory.

The Raiders (15-8 overall) will play College of Idaho (10-7) again in an elimination dual at 10 a.m. Friday. The winner advanced to play Corban (19-1) in the final round at 12 p.m. but will have to defeat the Warriors twice to win the tournament.

Individual matches were stopped Thursday as soon as a team dual victory was clinched, but the Raiders were leading all five against C of I and didn't require a tiebreaker set for any of their victories.

Against Corban, No. 2 pair Grace Gulbrandsen and Linda Conceicao leveled the score at 1-1 through the first session with a marathon 21-14, 15-21, 19-17 win over Cammie Masanda and Danae Stokes. In the second session, the Raiders took the first sets in both matches they went on to lose. Corban's top pair of Megan Dennis and Emma Bischoff ultimately sealed the win by taking a 15-11 tiebreaker from Madi Gray and Tessa Zimmermann.
