Stevens leads, Urquhart 4th after Day 1 of CCC Multis

Abi Stevens is first place in the women's heptathlon and Coleton Urquhart is fourth in the men's decathlon for the Southern Oregon University track and field team after Day 1 of the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships.

Stevens, an indoor national champion, finished strong through four events Thursday in search of her first CCC heptathlon title. She accumulated 2,981 points and sits 183 ahead of Eastern Oregon's second-place Adrienne Washington.

She ended the day in a promising fashion, taking first in 100-meter hurdles (15.14 seconds), 200 meters (25.95), and shot put (33 feet 10¼ inches), while also taking second in high jump (5-5¼).

Urquhart posted 3,225 points through five disciplines and sits just 24 points behind third place. He got there by setting personal bests in the 400 meters (51.55), shot put (41-1½), and high jump (5-5¾). He also set a season best in long jump (20-8).

Eastern Oregon's Justin Krabbenhoft has the lead with 3,714 points.

The decathlon resumes at 10 a.m. Friday, and the heptathlon at 10:15 a.m.
