COMPLETE MEET RESULTS
ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University track and field team tacked on three men's and three women's All-Cascade Conference performances as the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank concluded on Saturday at Raider Stadium.
SOU was represented by a pair of top-three finishers in both 5,000-meter races: runner-up
Frankie Maciel and third-place
Mason Weisgerber for the men, and runner-up
Alyssa Johnson and third-place
Cammeo Ramirez for the women.
Kobe Johnson stole second place with a personal best in the men's shot put, and
Abi Stevens picked up her fourth All-CCC medal of the meet by taking third in the high jump.
The Raiders tied for fifth in both team points races, matching Corban with 64 points in the men's standings and Lewis-Clark State with 60 on the women's side. They also produced the Men's Field Performer of the Meet in
Carson Le Bel, who was awarded for Friday's pole-vault showing in which he won a championship with a mark of 16 feet 6 ¾ inches. It was the best at the meet in six years, the second-best in SOU history and the third-best in the NAIA this season. He returned on Saturday to place fourth in the high jump by clearing 6-4 ¼.
It was the distance runners who saved the top-five teams finishes in the meet's final moments. In the men's 5K, Maciel came in at 14 minutes 41.01 seconds for his second runner-up showing in as many days and four in two seasons at the CCC Championships. As in Friday night's 1,500, he was just behind College of Idaho's Daniel Butler (14:39.20) but this time had friendly company not far behind in Weisgerber (14:42.39), who attained All-CCC track honors for the first time.
In the women's 5K, both Johnson (17:35.86) and Ramirez (17:47.40) were part of the lead pack for the majority of the race with C of I's Kaheah Figueira, who pulled away in 17:27.36. Both Raiders contributed points for the second day in a row, having previously taken fifth and sixth respectively in Friday's 1,500.
Stevens wound up accounting for half of SOU' 60 women's points in the meet. The third-place effort in the high jump – she cleared 5-6 ½, the same bar as the top-two placers – was the capper after she'd won the heptathlon, placed second in the 100 hurdles and third in the long jump.
Johnson gave the Raiders a much-needed boost in the men's throws and positioned himself to move on to the NAIA Outdoor Championships in the process. His runner-up shot put mark of 53-8 ½, which eclipsed the 'B' standard, stands as the 17th-best on the national performance list
The Raider men got additional points from fifth-place
JaQuieze Holland in the triple jump (41-11 ¼), seventh-place
Rogue Newton in the 400 hurdles (56.69), and their fourth-place 4x400 (3:22.00) team of Newton,
Dylan Heath,
Rafe Blandini and
Trey Lucas.
Gracie Freudenthal was a scorer for the Raider women, hitting the 400 hurdles finish line in 1:09.47 for seventh place.
The NAIA Outdoor Championship qualifiers will be announced next week. The meet takes place May 21-23 in Marion, Indiana.
