MARION, Ind.Alyssa Johnson and Frankie Maciel became All-Americans in the 10,000 meters with matching seventh-place finishes, and Abi Stevens put herself in contention for the heptathlon title during Day 1 of the NAIA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday at the Indiana Wesleyan Track & Field Complex.

Johnson hit the finish line in 35 minutes 43.62 seconds in the women's 10K final. The sophomore from Veneta improved upon her SOU No. 2 time by 30 seconds to become the fourth woman in program history to earn All-America honors in the event. Cammeo Ramirez finished ninth and was less than a second behind eighth place in 35:48.75 — running three minutes faster than what she did in last year's 21st-place effort, and taking over the No. 3 on the Raiders' all-time list.

Prior to the performance by Johnson and Ramirez, only one other woman in team history, Jessa Perkinson, had cracked 36 minutes in the 10K.

For the men, Maciel also earned his first All-America honor by finishing in 30:36.52. The senior closed the last lap in 63.39 seconds to ensure his position as the fifth Raider men's runner ever to earn All-America status in the event. Out of SOU's six top-eight finishes in the 10K, Maciel's stands as the fastest of the bunch. Jalen Griego was 21st in the same race with a time of 31:52.44.

Stevens sits in third after a tight Day 1 in the heptathlon. Her score of 3,061 points is the second best start of her career for the event and puts her 23 points behind first place and six behind second.

She set personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles (14.70), taking fourth, and the shot put, (10.77m) finishing fifth. She took second in the high jump (1.65m) and sixth in the 200 (25.92).

Cumberlands' Mya Hines — a familiar face whom Stevens edged out for the indoor pentathlon championship a few months ago — is in the lead with 3,084 points. Competition resumes at 8 a.m. PT on Thursday.

In addition to Stevens, the Raiders' distance squad of Maciel, Johnson, and Ramirez will be joined by Mason Weisgerber as they return to the track for the 5K prelims on Thursday. Katherine Martinez, who was originally scheduled to compete on Wednesday, will now be pole-vaulting at 2 p.m. on Thursday after inclement weather forced the change.
