Bob Hardy, an Ashland native, played basketball at SONS from 1935-37.  He was captain of the SONS team that won the Oregon State Amateur Athletic Union Championship in Portland in 1937 and later played in the National AAU Championship Tournament in Denver.  He was a member of the "Tall Firs" basketball team under Howard Hobson when the team won the first NCAA National College Championship in 1939.  Hardy also played professional baseball for three years.
