Tom Findlay is the first Southern Oregon wrestler to win a championship. A founding member of the university's first intercollegiate wrestling squad in 1956-57, the Roseburg native proceeded to capture the Pacific Coast Conference 177-pound championship as a sophomore. His performance, since unparalled, allowed the Raiders to finish above Stanford, Washington, Washington State, and California in the team standings. Findlay returned to the PCC title bout in 1958, and he finished his career having never been pinned. As a football lineman, Findlay started on offense and defense for three seasons, and he helped the Raiders claim Oregon Collegiate Conference championships in 1955 and '57.
