Lee Howard's tenure as the head coach of the SOSC swim program from 1966-1982 is a how-to manual for coaching successfully.  His dual meet record stands at 112-62 and his Water Polo teams won 11 Pacific Northwest Championships.  Howard coached 14 individual national champions and was twice named District II Coach of the Year (1969, 1972).  In 1970 Howard was selected National Coach of the Year.  Howard served as Athletic Director for the Raiders from 1972-1975.  Coach Howard's accomplishments include coaching the World Games in 1977 and being a member of the US Olympic COmmittee in 1972 and 1976.
