From 1972 to 1974, Craig earned NAIA All American status in swimming thirteen times, was the NAIA National Swimming Champion seven times, was national record holder in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles, and was also a member of the record setting 400, 800 freestyle relays and the 400 yard medley relay.  Phillips won 18 District II and 16 Evergreen Conference Championships.  He was named Scholar/Athlete for NAIA District II in 1972.  He became a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1980.
