Hall of Fame
Mark Helfrich played football for the Raiders from 1992-95. The versatile quarterback burst onto the scene in 1993 to earn NAIA Honorable Mention All-America honors, All-Columbia Football Association accolades and NAIA and CFA Scholar Athlete recognition. As of induction, Helfrich holds the SOU record for passing yards in a season (2,712), total offense in a season (2,962), pass attempts in a season (326) and touchdown passes in a game (six).
Helfrich also ranks among SOU's leaders in pass completions in a season (178), passes competed in a game (30), career passing yards (4,490), passing yards in a game (498), career touchdown passes (37), touchdown passes in a season (23) and career total offense (5,327). Helfrich was also involved with student government while at SOU and has gone on to a highly successful college football coaching career.
