Dusty McGrorty rewrote the SOU football record book during his time on the field from 1999-03. His record-breaking performance came right on the heels of Hall of Famer Griff Yates' record-breaking years. As of induction, McGrorty owned 12 SOU records, including career rushing attempts (983), season rushing attempts (291), single-game rushing attempts (46), career rushing yards (5,414), career rushing touchdowns (75), career overall touchdowns (79), season touchdowns (25), career points (474), season points (150) and single-game points (30). McGrorty also ranked second for rushing yards in a season (1,702), as well as in a game (303), and he ranked third in game rushing average (11.9), fourth in career total offense (5,414) and fifth in career rushing average (5.5).
McGrorty earned NAIA All-American honors in both 2002 and 2003, was named NAIA National Player of the Week twice and earned NAIA Independent Player of the Week honors six times during his career. He helped lead the Raiders the NAIA National Quarterfinals in both 2001 and 2002, and he signed a free agent contract with the National Football League's St. Louis Rams following his time at SOU. In the fall of 2004, McGrorty appeared in a game against the Miami Dolphins, marking the first time in school history that a former Raider had appeared in a regular season NFL contest.
