Ross Carter attended SONS in 1932 and 1933.  While at SONS he played football for the legendary Hobbie Hobson.  He was described as "very aggressive, very fast, and very strong."  Carter followed Hobson to Eugene and after two very successful years he signed with the Chicago Cardinals for whom he played from 1936-39.  In 1981, he was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.  Since his retirement, Carter has been active in the Senior Masters Track and Field competition.  He holds gold medals in both the shot and discus.
