Greg McMackin played football under coach Al Akins as a starting defensive back from 1963-1966. He was an All-Conference selection and was also a member of the College Scholastic Honor Society, culminating in his selection as the Education Student of the Year in 1967. Greg attended the University of Arizona, earning his Master's Degree while also serving as an assistant football coach. After leaving Arizona, Greg focused his career on coaching and earned national honors for his endeavours, especially as a defensive coordinator. He coached at many prestigious universities, receiving honors from each for his efforts. In addition to his collegiate experience, Greg has been duly recognized for his coaching by the USFL and NFL. He is also the author of a book on defensive football.
