Theresa Walton turned in one of the most impressive distance careers in SOU history. Running for the Raiders in track and field and cross country from 1991-94, Walton won the NAIA National Championship in the marathon as a senior in 1994 and was runner-up in the event as a junior in 1993. Walton’s most impressive feat may have came during her senior season at the NAIA District Championships. Even though she was training for the NAIA National Championships in the marathon, Walton went out and over two days won the District Championship in the 10,000, the 5,000 and the 1,500 and also finished second in the 3,000. As of induction, Walton was the school recordholder for the 10,000 (37:00.97) and marathon (2:58:32) and ranks on the school’s top five list for the 1,500 (4:53.30), 3,000 (10:20.21) and 5,000 (18:05.66). Walton was also a three-time Academic All-American.
