Gaylord "Snuffy" Smith

Class of 1950, Snuffy was the starting left halfback and defensice back in the school's most successful football era.  He helped lead the Raiders to Far Western Conference championships in 1946, '47, and '48.  Smith was a mainstay in the Pear Bowl victory, 13-8, over Central Washington following the 1946 season.  The 1946 and 1947 teams won 15 consecutive games.  During this skein, he scored the winning touchdown in the closest game of the 1946 season against the OSU JV's, 9-7, and caught the winning touchdowns in the 1947 San Francisco State and Humboldt State games.  In addition to football, Snuffy was a member of the baseball team.
